Texas’ 50 community colleges represent the greatest segment of higher education in the state, with more than 70% of all Texas freshmen and sophomores enrolled and are a prime contributor to economic activity in their respective service regions.

About Collin College

Collin College has had a sustained history of growth over its 35-year history, but the last five years have been remarkable.  Now serving more than 58,000 students and maintaining a reputation for academic excellence, it offers an unmatched combination of award-winning programs and state-of-the-art facilities.

Collin College was named a 2020 Great College to Work For, one of 79 institutions across the United States so designated; for the second year in a row, the college was named to the Honor Roll Institute with honors in 10 categories this year such as Collaborative Governance, Confidence in Senior Leadership, Job Satisfaction, Respect and Appreciation, and Work/Life Balance.

Collin College recently adopted and launched its new five-year Master and Strategic Plans for 2020-2025 with priorities and goals that are designed to help accomplish the goals outlined in the 60x30TX Strategic Higher Education Plan.

The college holds the distinction of being a National Center of Excellence in Nursing Education.  Collin College was the first in the state to win the designation when NLN awarded it to the college originally in 2011.  The college’s Center of Excellence designation was renewed in 2015 and again in 2020.  It’s now one of just four in Texas and remains the only community college in the state with the designation.

Increasing Accessibility

Thanks to voter support of its most recent bond election, Collin College is updating many of its campuses plus added four new campuses.  Collectively the new campuses comprise nearly 1,000,000 square feet – a 59% increase.  The college also is adding a 92,000 sq.ft. IT Center of Excellence at the Frisco Campus.

Most significantly, the college has successfully pursued a level change from an associate degree-granting institution to a baccalaureate degree-granting institution, offering Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity degrees, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management under development.  The first 17 nurses graduated with the college’s BS in Nursing in December 2020.

Over the last two years, Collin College has added 22 new degree and certificate programs.

FOUR-YEAR Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity from Collin College = $6,480. (Collin College tuition for two years for an individual with an associate degree pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Program-specific fees apply for BAT and BSN programs.)

 COVID-19 Response:

Collin College converted more than 4,000 courses to an online format over a two-week period during March 2020.  For students in labs or other programs which required hands-on training, faculty were onsite to ensure students completed their programs and did not lose any work completed.

The Board of Trustees approved an expenditure of more than $3 million to install new air cleaning technologies (similar to those used in hospitals) at all ten college facilities which will help eliminate airborne contaminants.

For the Fall 2020 semester, 35,617 students enrolled at Collin College, which was up slightly over the prior fall.  Collin is one of only two community college districts out of 50 statewide to see an enrollment increase.

Approximately 25% of students are in traditional, socially-distanced face-to-face courses, 40% are in a blended/hybrid model that allows for social distancing, and the remaining 35% are online.

Masks are required on all campuses.

Collin College does not conduct its own testing of students and employees; therefore the college’s COVID-19 data are solely self-reported.  From August 24 (start of school) through December 4 (most recent data) 306 students across all instructional modalities self-reported positive COVID-19 test results.
